The Goblin system is running the C-XIX operating system (release level 3.0.1) from CounterPoint Computers (now Acer). C-XIX is a licensed port of the UNIX System V Release 3 operating system originally developed at AT&T Bell Laboratories (now Lucent Technologies). The AT&T code was augmented with Berkeley 4.2 networking.

This "rackmount" hardware, a CounterPoint 22E, consists of a pair of attached two drawer modules. The first module houses the main processor drawer which contains a 25Mhz Motorola MC68020 with MC68881 floating point co-processor, 16MB of ECC memory, single ended SCSI controller, Ethernet interface, 17 serial ports, parallel port, 150MB 1/4" cartridge tape drive, and the Control Data Corporation (now Syntegra) 150MB "Wren-III" boot disk (CDC sold their small disk drive operation to Seagate. The second module houses the other four disk drives (all 300MB CDC "Wren-IV"s).

This system was obtained when a large site was replacing these units with new equipment. Currently, this system is being used primarily as a file server and is located with the other C22E's in the basement where they use Ethernet to communicate with the outside world via the Linux system on the second floor.
